A familiar name that’s been part of Minnesota’s retail scene for decades has now quietly disappeared from storefronts across the state. In its place, a new name has emerged, marking the end of an era for a classic brand many Minnesotans grew up with.

Iconic Minnesota Store Brand Name Officially Retired

As the old saying goes, there's nothing certain except death and taxes. Well, and lately, we can add retail stores and restaurants opening and closing, right? That's not what happened in this case, but it does mean a familiar brand name that's been a fixture here in the North Star State for over 40 years has now gone extinct.

We first got the news that this popular furniture store brand, which first started in Minnesota back in 1980, was going away back in February. That's when this story from Home News Now reported that Becker Furniture's multiple locations, along with its main distribution center, all here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, were being sold to Furniture Mart.

The story noted that this acquisition affects Becker's retail stores in Becker, Blaine, Burnsville, Maple Grove, Maplewood, Minnetonka, and Woodbury, along with Becker's main distribution center in Becker. It also means a Furniture Superstore in Rochester will now also be branded as Furniture Mart.

And now, that transition is complete, and the Becker Furniture World name no longer exists. According to a post on BeckerFurniture.com:

Becker started as a family business in the heart of Minnesota. And for over 45 years, we’ve helped you furnish the chapters of your life, from the first apartments to growing families and everything in between. Now, we’re starting a new chapter. Not because we’re leaving something behind, but because we are building something better.

According to this Home News Now story, the just-completed acquisition by Furniture Mart means that while the name on the front of the store is changing, the business's commitment to carrying the same top-quality furniture brands as well as its reputation for customer service will still remain the same.
