Minnesota Just Ranked One of America’s Most Forgotten States
Try this test - name all 50 U.S. states without looking. Go ahead, I’ll wait.
If you made it past 40, color me impressed, you’ve officially outperformed most of America. Unless you’re some kind of geography whiz, there’s a good chance you’ll start to slow down somewhere around the middle. Suddenly you’re asking yourself: Is Delaware even real? Did I already say Wyoming? Wait… what’s the one next to Iowa again?
According to Reader’s Digest, which pulled data from the quiz site Sporcle, a few states consistently gets left off people’s lists, and brace yourself, Minnesota, we are one of those states. Yep, the Land of 10,000 Lakes landed at number three on the list of most forgotten states in America. Sigh.
The quiz has been played over 35 million times, and in more than 22% of those games, players totally blanked on Minnesota. That means millions of people forgot we even exist. Only Connecticut (number 2) and Missouri (number 1) were forgotten more often.
So how does a state with Mall of America, the world's best hospital, Prince, and really unpredictable weather get left out? Maybe we’re just too chill (literally and figuratively) to demand attention.

Just for reference, some of the most memorable states are California, Texas, Florida, New York, and Washington. Honestly, being forgotten maybe isn’t the worst thing in the world. Especially if it means fewer tourists, less noise, and more room for us to enjoy the good stuff - bonfires, fall colors, and that first patio beer in April.
So now I’ve gotta ask, is there a state you always forget?
