Another school year is in session, and I'm sure college is top of mind for a lot of kiddos. I know my 10th grader is already talking about college visits and all his hopes and dreams for post-high school. I'm not crying, you're crying.

Just for perspective before we look at the local colleges: Columbia in NYC has a 3.9% admission rate, MIT in Massachusetts has a 4% admissions rate, and Yale in Connecticut, a 4.6% admission rate. The hardest college to get into in the entire country - Stanford.

Grinnell College, a private liberal arts college is the hardest college to get into in Iowa. Grinnell has an admissions rate or 10.8%. The SAT scores are 730 in reading and writing and 750 in math.

The average cost of attendance is $28,610/year. They have an 87% graduation rate. The median annual earnings 10 years after entry for Grinnell grads is $62,529 according to 24/7 Wall St.
