Wisconsin Waterpark Building Tallest Waterslide In The U.S.
If you love waterparks-- and don't have a fear of heights-- you'll love the new waterslide this Wisconsin waterpark is building!
That's because a new, mammoth waterslide will soon be just an hour and a half away from Minnesota. Hey, Minnesota may be the Land of 10,000 Lakes, but it's our neighbors to the east over in America's Dairyland who will soon lay claim to owning the record for the tallest waterslide in the country.
Mt. Olympus Water and Theme Park Resort in Wisconsin Dells (which is located a little over three hours southeast of the Twin Cities) announced the news last week that they're building a brand new waterslide, called The Rise of Icarus. And once it's built next year, it will plunge you a whopping 145 feet-- and will also set the record for the tallest waterslide in the U.S.
In case you're curious, the title of the Tallest Waterslide in the Country is currently held by Thillagascar and Jungle Jammer in New Jersey, according to Water Slide Database. It's located within the American Dream shopping mall in East Rutherford, which is located just outside of New York City. It's held that record since it opened on October 1st of 2020.
But the new Rise of Icarus at Mt. Olympus will dwarf that slide by an additional three feet once it's completed, which is expected to be sometime in the summer of 2024. And while that's pretty tall, it will still be only the third-tallest waterslide in the world. Water Slide Database says Hurricane Tower in Xianyang, China is second-tallest, at 147.6 feet while Kilimanjaro in Barra Do Pirai, Brazil is the tallest in the world, standing an incredible 164 feet tall.
According to the Mt. Olympus Facebook page, the Rise of Icarus is part of an $8 million project the water park is undertaking. That project will also add five additional new waterslides, as well as a 'major new outdoor children's play area which will consist of 10 new slides and water play features.' the post noted.
