Love Krypto in the Superman Movie? These Adoptable Rochester Dogs Will Steal Your Heart Too
The new 'Superman' movie directed by James Gunn just came out last weekend, on July 11th. People seem to really be enjoying the movie overall.
Is the New Superman Movie Good?
I've heard only positive feedback about the new Superman movie. A co-worker of mine said it was "a solid B". On Rotten Tomatoes, movie critics gave it an 83% and reviews from people like us gave it a whopping 93%!

One of the characters in the movie that people have really fallen in love with is Superman's dog, Krypto.
Superman's Dog in the New Superman Movie
I haven't seen the movie, so this is entirely spoiler-free. But I've read that Krypto is not well-trained and torments Superman throughout the movie, but overall, he's a very good boy.
Turns out, Krypto became part of the movie because of James Gunn's adopted dog that he got while writing the movie.

James Gunn's Adopted Dog Inspired Krypto in the New Superman Movie
James Gunn's adopted doggo is named Ozu. The Wrap writes:
Gunn was having trouble training the pup, and wondered how much worse things would be if Ozu had superpowers. And thus, Krypto joined the story.
The New Superman Movie Causes an Increase in Adoptable Dog Searches
Because of Krypto, The Wrap writes, searches for adoptable dogs have shot up more than 500%! That's amazing!
There are plenty of dogs out there who are wonderful dogs and mean well, but just need a bit of training and guidance to become the best dogs they can be.
Since we have so many worthy, adoptable dogs in the Rochester, MN area, I decided to put together a little list of currently adoptable dogs in our area that remind me of Krypto.
These dogs could physically look similar to Krypto, or they could just be loving dogs that just need a bit of training, just like Krypto.
(The dog cast to play Krypto is definitely a mut of some kind, but Super Hero Hype writes that people are guessing he's some sort of terrier mix with maybe a little Schnauzer in there.)
Adoptable Rochester, MN Dogs That Remind Us of Superman's Dog Krypto
Up first, we have Lady and Lola from Camp Companion. They're a bonded pair who are both terrier mixes, just like Krypto!
Lady is 9, and Lola is 14. They don't quite have the energy that Krypto does, though. They are both described as being sweet and loving, though, so they'll be the perfect pair for someone.
Pooche is also a terrier mix like Krypto. You can find him at Paws and Claws. Pooche (5 years old) is bonded with Bertha, who they describe as a husky mix.
Their full story isn't known, but they've clearly stuck together through it all. Pooche, specifically, is a little shy but curious.
Now we're moving on to dogs whose personalities remind me of Krypto.
Up first is Chip from Camp Companion. Chip is a 3-year-old German Shepherd.
"Chip thrives when he's active, whether it's going on adventures, learning new tricks, or just being your loyal sidekick."
Next is Rover, from Camp Companion, who is a 1-year-old lab mix.
"Rover is full of life and always ready for an adventure. He’ll make a great companion for someone who can match his enthusiasm and give him the structure he needs."
Zella, also from Camp Companion, is next on the list.
She's a 2-year-old pointer/terrier mix. "I’m a happy, curious girl who loves to explore the world around me — walks, yard zoomies, sniffing new smells — count me in!"
And the last Camp Companion dog is Katie, a 2-year-old who is a mix of a bit of everything.
"This playful girl is full of energy and independence, always ready to embrace the next fun challenge."
Next I have some dogs from Paws and Claws, including Beef, a 2-year-old Shepherd mix.
"He's a young and active Shepherd mix and he would do best with a family who plans to take him on walks or hikes, car rides, and other adventures! He's a smart boy and he would benefit from some doggie training classes where he can show off his smarts!"
Luke, also from Paws and Claws, is a 1-year-old pit bull mix.
"He is a young boy and still has puppy energy and playfulness. ... He loves running around our play yard and going on walks. [He] would benefit from obedience training to help him become not just a good boy but the best boy!" He's described as "entertaining, athletic, and a loyal friend".
And last but not least, we have Mia from Paws and Claws, a 3-year-old pit bull mix.
They say she has enthusiasm for all things! "I love to run and play and get so excited I might jump right onto your lap. I already know some basic 'skillz' and if I concentrate, I can sit very still."
