It’s hard to drive anywhere in Rochester right now without hitting a detour. There is so much construction happening across town that it all starts to blur together. I was just at the north Menards the other day and didn't think twice about the heavy machinery moving dirt next to the store.

But our listeners notice everything. I got a message from a curious listener wanting to know what is going in there and if it was anything exciting.

The massive north Menards location opened on April 8, 2014, and the surrounding lots have mostly sat empty since then, outside of some storage units.

Crews are currently clearing space near the Menards entrance to make room for another Les Schwab Tire Center. This will be the second in Rochester.

If you aren't familiar with the name, Les Schwab is one of the largest independent tire businesses in the country. The company is named after its founder, who was born in Bend, Oregon, in 1917, and built the business from a single tire shop.

There are now hundreds of Les Schwab tire shops in the country and the company has grown to employ over 7,000 people as it continues to expand its footprint out of the West.

Now, north-side drivers will have another option for tires and service right next to Menards.
