Soon, dozens of homeless families will have a home thanks to this project, and a generous grant from the Mayo Clinic.

"Center City Housing, the nonprofit in charge of the project, announced that Mayo Clinic's Community Contribution Committee awarded a three-year grant for $300,000 to help transform the former Gage East Elementary School into an Empowerment Center," according to Jeff Kiger of the Post Bulletin.

The former school building is next to Gage East Apartments on 40th St. NW. The 55-unit housing complex will house 30 homeless families and 25 young homeless individuals ages 16 to 22, and is slated for completetion this summer.

The Empowerment Center will allow groups that offer services to aid the tenants (Family Service Rochester, Workforce Development Inc., Olmsted County Community Services, Lutheran Social Services LINK program and more) to rent space in the complex.
