New Cast Announced for SNL Season 51

SNL announced earlier this week that they're adding five new faces to the cast after some cast members left/got fired, including Heidi Gardner.

There are podcasts that I've listened to where former cast members talked about being on SNL, and I've heard that it's a tough place to work. I don't remember which former cast member said this (maybe Abby Elliot?), but they mentioned that if you had too many sketch pitches that didn't get picked for the show, you'd get fired. Yikes!

SNL is definitely a launching point for many comedians and actors, and hopefully, it proves successful for this Minnesotan who's joining the cast.

Minnesotan Joining the Cast of SNL

His name is Tommy Brennan. I get the feeling you'll want to remember that name because this guy must have a natural talent. I've never seen his stand-up, but based on his path to get to where he is today, he must be a naturally funny guy.

Tommy went to Cretin-Derham Hall High School in St. Paul and Notre Dame for college. In college, he studied accounting and ended up working for businesses like Cameo and LinkedIn, according to his Wikipedia page.

So he's clearly a smart guy, but he also loved performing. When living in Chicago and working, he also joined an improv group. But he wanted to perform more. So he decided to try his hand at stand-up and eventually went full-time doing stand-up in 2023.

He's opened for comedians like Nikki Glaser, Taylor Tomlinson, and Louie Anderson. He was also named the 'New Face of Comedy' in 2023 at a festival in Montreal. In June of this year, he did a stand-up set on Jimmy Fallon.

And now he's going to be on SNL! In just two years of doing this full-time! That seems really impressive to me. I'm excited to see what he does with his time at SNL and where he'll go from there.

The 51st season of SNL will kick off on October 4th.
