Rochester Kid Competes on Food Network Show Chopped Junior
When you're a kid you daydream and aspire to be something one day. Maybe an astronaut, maybe a doctor or....maybe a chef! That's what Castle Dettinger wants to be and he's already chasing his dreams. Last fall, unbeknownst to his parents, he submitted his name to be on the Food Network show "Chopped Junior". He didn't think he'd get selected so when he got the call he had to tell his parents what he did. More interviews happened and next thing he knew - he was headed to New York City! When he and his family arrived he said that it was an incredible experience. They got to see Broadway shows and tour the city.
While he cannot expound on exactly how the airing of the "Chopped Junior" show went, he did share that they had mystery ingredients to work with. Castle went on to say that his favorite ingredient is beef. He said he loved making burgers and sloppy joes. When asked if he's a pretty good chef he said "Yeah, I'm pretty good."
Knelly Dettinger, Castles mom, said "Castle winning a spot on Chopped Jr was like a real life version of visiting Willy Wonka's chocolate factory. Food Network totally rolled out the red carpet for these talented kids and solidified their belief that anything is possible if you set your mind and take action."
Castle has participated with the Civic Theater, most recently in Mary Poppins as Michael Banks, his segment on 'Chopped' will air on Tuesday, August 29th at 7pm on the Food Network. A viewing party will be held.
