If Minnesota is known for only one thing, it would be 'Minnesota Nice'. It's a phrase that many around the US know, and I like to think that it's true. Minnesotans are very nice people in general, and people from elsewhere in the US have agreed when they travel here.

Now, could that be because we're passive-aggressive and avoid conflict like the plague? Maybe. But we are actually nice people!

And that has been proven with this recent study that was done by WalletHub.

To accurately rank each state, WalletHub looked at factors like:

volunteer rate

the share of sheltered people experiencing homelessness

the share of income donated

and the percentage of the state's population that is collecting/distributing food.

Is Minnesota Nice a Real Thing?

After seeing this study, I have to believe Minnesota Nice is a real thing, because we ranked as the 4th most charitable state in the country. That's awesome!

The categories where we shined the most were the volunteer rate and the percentage of the state's population that donated their time to charities.

As for the least charitable states, the bottom 3 are Mississippi, Nevada, and New Mexico came in as the least charitable.
