What exactly makes a state a safe place to be?
Your personal and residential safety is important and so is the safety of the roads. But then you also have financial safety, workplace safety, and emergency preparedness to consider.
These are the five main categories that WalletHub looked at while doing this study to find the safest states to live in.
They mention that there were 52 "key safety indicators" that were considered and that all fit into one of the five categories.

Now, what about which states are the safest? Let's take a look at the top five.

Uh oh, no Minnesota in the top five. Where did we end up on this list?
Not too far down the list, Minnesota ranked as the 8th safest state in the US. That's really good!
Our best ranking was in road safety, followed by workplace safety, financial safety, personal and residential safety, and then emergency preparedness.
The states that beat us out, aside from the top five we already talked about, are Connecticut at number seven and Hawaii at number six.
