I love all of the outdoor adventures available in Minnesota. We have so many state and national parks offering endless trails for hiking and biking, and over 10,000+ lakes for anyone who loves the water.

I recently visited Minneopa State Park in Mankato with my kids to check out the double waterfall. It was incredible, with the upper level dropping about 10 feet and the lower level dropping another 40 feet.

It might surprise you to know that Minnesota is home to over 130 waterfalls! See some of the most beautiful, including Gooseberry and Minnehaha, at the bottom of this story.

Where Is The Tallest Waterfall in Minnesota?

You'll need to head up north to see the tallest waterfall in the state. Way up north!

The tallest waterfall in Minnesota is in Grand Portage State Park, located on the northeastern tip of Minnesota, right on the Canada–United States border. You'll find it along U.S. Highway 61 in Grand Portage, Cook County.

This park is pretty unique because it's the only Minnesota state park not directly owned by the state.

Instead, the land lies within the Grand Portage Indian Reservation and, according to the Minnesota DNR, is leased to Minnesota through a cooperative effort with the Grand Portage Band of Chippewa Indians since its establishment in 1989.

The High Falls of the Pigeon River is Minnesota’s tallest waterfall, plummeting 120 feet!

A viewing deck allows guests to take in all that beauty and is completely wheelchair accessible. If you can't make the trip up north this year, don't worry—there are plenty of other amazing waterfalls in our state to explore. Check out some of the most beautiful ones below.
