Two friends were out off-roading in north central Minnesota late last week. They were supposed to meet up with others for an organized ride. They told KARE 11 that the plans ended up getting changed and the two friends, Adam and Mike went out on a ride on their own.

They decided to go down a trail that they had driven by before, but never went down until that day.

That decision literally saved a woman's life.

Missing Minnesota Woman

A 68-year-old woman named Kathryn had been reported missing earlier in the week. Three days later, on June 6th, was when Adam and Mike went down this trail and discovered something strange.

The trail was muddy and some parts were flooded because of storms that had happened recently. And then they came upon a van. Adam told KARE 11 that the van was "'in the middle of nowhere'" and had "'no real off-road capabilities'".

They approached the van to see what was going on and that's when they saw a face in the mud.

Two Friends Find Missing Minnesota Woman

At first, they thought this person was dead. Adam said that all they could see was "'the round part of her face, like her mouth, her lips. You couldn't even see her ears. It was all submerged.'"

Then she whispered 'help me'. It freaked out Adam and Mike because they weren't expecting her to be alive.

(I'm getting uneasy just thinking about that whole situation! Imagine coming up on this vehicle and finding a woman there, barely alive nearly totally submerged in mud?!)

They knew they needed to do something. They acted fast, pulled her out, and called 911. And the person they had just saved was Kathryn!

She told them that she had fallen into a puddle next to her van (which I would imagine was also stuck) and immediately was trapped. There had been so much water that the mud had become quicksand and was swallowing her up.

After 3 days stuck in the quicksand, she was rescued because two friends decided to go down a trail they don't usually take.

How freaking scary to be her! 3 DAYS stuck like that? I can't, and don't want to, imagine.
