Byron, MN Native Named the 90th Miss Minnesota

Our newest Miss Minnesota was crowned and she's from southeast Minnesota! Anna Brennan, native of Byron, is our 90th Miss Minnesota.

Can you believe Miss Minnesota has been around for 90 years? That's wild! And on Friday, Anna was crowned the 90th Miss Minnesota.

90th Miss Minnesota

First, she won Miss Twin Cities in order to compete for Miss Minnesota. Yes, I know, she's from Byron, but she's going to college in the Twin Cities at the University of St. Thomas where she's working on a degree in journalism.

Last week, her and other competitors took part in a three-day long competition that lead up to the crowning of Miss Minnesota on Friday night.

Anna Brennan of Byron Wins Miss Minnesota

Part of the competition is a talent portion. Anna is a dancer so her talent was a classical ballet piece. Each contestant also have a community initiative that they will promote throughout their year as Miss Minnesota if they win. Anna's is MediaWELL, which she created herself.

MediaWELL is "dedicated to building the foundations of Empowered Connection for the digital generation." The goal is to help people "engage with today's digital landscape intelligently and intentionally". I love that!

Anna will spend the next year promoting MediaWELL, making appearances all across Minnesota, and representing Minnesota in the Miss America competition in September. As Miss Minnesota, she also wins a $10,000 scholarship.

Her path over the next year will be filled with all sorts of cool opportunities. The organization writes that the program is "designed to equip women with lifelong skills, foster personal growth, and create opportunities to make a meaningful difference in their communities."
