MnDOT Closing Part of Highway-52 Again This Weekend in Minnesota
Here's a head's up if you're headed to the Twin Cities this weekend-- a portion of Highway-52 will be closed...again.
Actually, going UP to the Twin Cities along northbound Highway-52 (which we've all traveled on too many times to count, right?) won't be a problem this weekend. It's the coming back SOUTH that could take you some extra time.
That's because the section of southbound Highway-52 (U.S. Highway 52, if you're being all specific) between Saint Paul and I-494 in Inver Grove Heights will be closed again. If you're following closely, you'll note that the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) closed this same stretch of Highway-52 back in early May. And now, it's closed again this weekend.
Specifically, MnDOT says that the southbound stretch of Highway-52 between Plato Boulevard and I-494 will be closed from 9 pm Friday, June 4th through 5 am Monday, June 7th. Now, if you ARE up in Saint Paul this weekend, you can still get back here to Rah-Rah-Rochester by using their official detour route, which is heading east on I-94 to Highway-61. Take that to I-494 west, and then take the Highway-52 south exit.
So, why is it closed this weekend? Here's the official word from MnDOT:
Hwy 52 will be resurfaced between I-494 in Inver Grove Heights and Hwy 156/Concord St. in St. Paul. We will also be repairing concrete on Hwy 52 between Concord St. and Plato Blvd. in St. Paul. Hwy 52 will have seven weekend directional closures and there also will be ramp closures associated with the project.
Of course, if you are heading up to the Twin Cities this weekend, that's not the only stretch of Highway-52 where you'll encounter some orange construction barrels. MnDOT is also doing some major work along that route that will eventually redo that Highway-57 intersection at Hader. But currently, you'll find single-lane traffic near Cannon Falls.
