At this time, the Minneapolis–St. Paul International Airport (MSP) has declined to broadcast a video featuring Homeland Security Secretary Kristin Noem that blames Democratic leaders for the ongoing federal government shutdown.

The Department of Homeland Security reportedly asked airports across the country to display the short video on terminal monitors. The message, shared on X (formerly Twitter) by Ron Filipkowski, editor-in-chief at MeidasTouch.com, is aimed at airline passengers. See it below.

In the video, Noem says: “It is TSA’s top priority to make sure that you have the most pleasant and efficient airport experience possible while we keep you safe. However, Democrats in Congress refuse to fund the federal government. And because of this, many of our operations are impacted, and most of our TSA employees are working without pay.”

Is Air Travel Impacted During Government Shutdowns?

During government shutdowns, TSA officers are considered essential employees and are required to work without pay. This can lead to staffing shortages, low morale, and an increased number of absences. These issues can impact airport security lines and the overall travel experience.

Jeff Lea, spokesperson for the Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC), confirmed to FOX 9 that MSP was asked to air the video but has not done so. “TSA is not airing the video while the MAC is evaluating this request under applicable legal requirements,” Lea said. “We’re grateful for the thousands of federal workers who continue to support air transportation at MSP and across the country during the government shutdown.”

According to KSTP, several other airports have refused to air the video, citing potential violations of federal laws that restrict political messaging by government officials in public venues.

The Official 2025 U.S. Government 'Do Not Travel' List

Traveling to unique and exotic places rather than the usual tourist traps can be quite an adventure. However, it's crucial to research your destination thoroughly.

While every trip comes with some risk, requiring you to mind your surroundings and take some precautions, there are some places you should probably avoid because the risks far outweigh the benefits.

The United States government has a convenient website that helps by listing travel advisories they have in place for countries all over the world, ranking the risk from Level 1 through Level 4.

You should NOT travel there if a country is issued a Level 4 advisory. As of May 2025, the countries below are on the 'Do Not Travel' list.
