One Minute Tours Creator Receiving Backlash for Video Announcing Move From Minnesota
In an unexpected turn of events, the Minnesotan behind the viral One Minute Tours announced on Sunday that he has moved his family out of the state and the country altogether and now lives in Australia.
People have opinions about this.
One Minute Tours John O'Sullivan Leaves Minnesota for Australia
The guy behind One Minute Tours is John O'Sullivan. He became popular on social media for creating one-minute videos about Minnesota and our history. He's from Mankato and has been very passionate about sharing Minnesota with the world.
But now, he has revealed that 6 months ago, he and his wife made the decision to move their family to Australia "in the wake of the Annunciation Shooting." They officially moved in mid-January 2026.
(For context, John's wife is from Australia and his son was born there. John and his daughter have been granted citizenship.)

In the video, he says, "At what point are we irresponsible parents, when we have the wherewithal to not be in this situation, and we're choosing to live here anyway?"
"I don't feel that Minnesota is a safe place for my children right now. Try as I might to get reassurance from officials, nobody seems to think that there's any possibility that we don't have another mass shooting again."
He also cited current political violence as a factor in their move as well.
John also mentions that he will continue to post videos about Minnesota. He also plans start doing videos focusing on Australia and what it's like living there as an expat.
Why People Are Mad at One Minute Tours John O'Sullivan
A majority of the comments he's receiving are from people who are quite upset, especially because he has raised over $65,000 on a Kickstarter campaign to fund a project he's doing (which this video is an episode of) called Hidden Middle. It's supposed to be a series featuring stories of the Midwest.
One comment on John's video says,
If you need help figuring out mutual aid donation spots for your sponsorships that you got when you were promoting your Minnesota content, let me know! Profiting off of us as you leave would be a bad look.
Another says,
Can I get my Kickstarter donation back please?
And another,
I don’t blame anyone for leaving the US right now. But to frame this as “leaving *Minnesota*” at this crucial time, rather than “leaving the United States” is irresponsible imo and damaging to the community that supports/supported you.
And the comment that has gotten the most likes (on his Instagram post, at least),
The Minneapolis response to ICE has only deepened my pride in this community [and] demonstrated why I wouldn’t live anywhere else.
