Opinion – Post Bulletin’s ‘Athlete of the Year’ is Wrong
Yesterday, the Post Bulletin announced Marcus Sherels as their "Athlete of the Year". Normally, I'd have no problem with this selection. Marcus is a record-setting punt returner for the Minnesota Vikings and was picked as a Pro Bowl alternate this year. Plus, he's a good dude. I've met Marcus several times and he really is a great human.
In my opinion there is one incredible Rochester athlete that should have got the nod this year. Matthew Hurt, a senior at Rochester's John Marshall, has had an incredible career on the basketball court and currently holds offers from all of the premiere college basketball programs in the country. North Carolina, Duke, Kansas, Kentucky - all of them! It's not everyday that an athlete from Rochester receives this much attention from the national powerhouses.
