Peek Inside a MLB Player’s $5.8 Million West Des Moines Mansion

One of the most expensive homes in central Iowa has hit the market. Besides being a gorgeous piece of property, this home is noteworthy because it was custom-made for a former MLB pitcher who has roots in the Iowa capital.

Jeremy Hellickson, who pitched for the Tampa Bay Rays and Philadelphia Phillies during his ten-season career from 2010 - 2019, is selling his palatial, custom-made mansion in West Des Moines, IA. The home is one of the most expensive in the capital area. It boasts five bedrooms and seven bathrooms on seven acres of land.

The mansion also has a smaller house that has a two-story basketball court and golf simulator, while the main location has a saltwater pool and soak-tub. Hellickson, a Des Moines native and Hoover graduate, and his wife, Natalie, built the 4,954-square-foot house in 2018. They are asking $5.8 million for it.

It has five bedrooms and seven bathrooms and sits on seven acres. The house also has a saltwater pool, a full-size, two-story basketball court and a golf simulator.

Mitchum also added that she sees the home being attractive for someone moving out of a big city to the Des Moines area, where the cost of living is lower and a home of this caliber is viewed as a bargain. She added that Hellickson and his wife are selling the house because, somehow, "they need more space," and are commissioning another home to be built nearby.

Jeremy Hellickson, who was nicknamed "Hellboy," pitched in 232 games for five different MLB teams, and finished with a 76-75 record. He was the 2011 American League Rookie of the Year after going 13-10 with a 2.95 ERA and 117 strikeouts in 189 innings for the Rays.
