Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)  - A woman who had been accused of killing a pet during a burglary earlier this year has entered into a plea agreement with Olmsted County prosecutors.

36-year-old Angela Spears entered guilty pleas on Friday to felony counts of possession of burglary or theft tools and drug possession. In exchange, a second-degree burglary charge and a misdemeanor damage to property charge were dismissed.

Spears was arrested the night of June 30 after Rochester police officers were sent to investigate a burglary at an apartment along North Broadway. The victim told the officers she came home and found her apartment had been ransacked and immediately called law enforcement.

The responding officers searched the apartment and found Spears asleep on the porch and a dead cat on the other side of the door. According to the criminal complaint, pieces of broken pottery were found next to the cat, which suggested the possibility of someone through or dropped the pottery onto the cat. A backpack belonging to Spears was found on the porch and it contained a small amount of marijuana and methamphetamine.

The court record states that Spears admitted she did not live in the apartment, and the victim told police she did not know Spears and did not give her permission to enter her residence.

The plea agreement calls for a stayed prison sentence and the possibility of up to 240 days in jail. She is scheduled to be sentenced on December 29.

Last year, Spears was sentenced to five years on probation for an arson conviction. She had been accused of entering a condominium and starting the fire in some clothing after piling the items on the bed. She also allegedly used a baseball bat to smash a mirror.
