A person described by Rochester police as a "prolific baby formula thief" is headed for prison.

60-year-old Leslie Robinson was given a  24-month prison sentence during a hearing in Olmsted County Court this afternoon. The Minneapolis man previously entered guilty pleas to a felony theft charge and a felony count of soliciting a juvenile for a criminal act.

The charges stem from his arrest in August 2020 when he was caught wheeling a cart loaded with $1500 worth of baby formula out of the South Target store in Rochester. The criminal complaint indicates Robinson was also caught shoplifting 90 cans of baby formula from the North Walmart store earlier the same year.

The court record states that Robinson was "well-known to Walmart loss prevention officers" in other store locations in Minnesota and listed 20 similar cases in a number of cities dating back to 2016. Investigators alleged his thefts from Target stores totaled more than $40,000 and on one occasion he took nearly $10,000 worth of baby formula from a business in Owatonna.
