Rochester Is Flirting With Two Cold Weather Streaks

Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Rochester is dealing with two cold-weather streaks, one of them VERY cold.

Rochester has been in negative territory since the airport temperature slipped below zero around 6:30 pm Wednesday.

As of Friday morning, the National Weather Service was forecasting highs of only zero to -5 through Monday.

The city’s longest streak of days with subzero maximum temperatures is seven, set in 1912. The city has recorded five-day streaks of sub-zero high temperatures in three separate years, the most recent in 1996.

The other streak has reached 7 days. That’s seven days with daily high temperatures that are less than 10 degrees.

That streak could grow to 10 or more before warmer air returns. The city’s longest streak of days without reaching 10 degrees is 15 set in 1912.

The National Weather Service says the arctic air that has moved into Minnesota “isn't going anywhere and will keep the region in the deep freeze through the weekend and early next week."
