A new survey is out with a list of the 2022 Best Cities to Live in America, and our own Rochester made the list. Here are the reasons why we were included.

It's not a surprise that Rochester has been included on another national list of Best Places to Live. Minnesota's Med City has long been a part of many similar surveys over the years, and now we find ourselves included in this new Niche list of the 2022 Best Cities to Live in America.

To compile their list, Niche said they looked at several factors: "We examined the best cities to live in the U.S. based on crime, public schools, cost of living, job opportunities, and local amenities. Rankings are based on city data from the U.S. Census, FBI, BLS, CDC, and other sources,"  Niche said.

And according to those rankings, Rochester is the 33rd Best City to Live in America in 2022. Which is fairly a decent ranking, especially when you consider Niche looked at 228 different cities across the United States when putting together the list.

Rochester received an overall grade of A with a four-star ranking (out of five) on the survey, which was based on 262 respondents. We scored a B+ for our schools; A- for housing; A in good for families; A- for diversity; and a B+ for nightlife. Our lowest grade in the survey was a C+ for crime and safety.

Here's what one reviewer said about Rochester in the survey:

I used to find Rochester 'boring,' but as I have continued to live here throughout my childhood, I have grown to appreciate it more. It is easy to drive in, has a good downtown and shopping (obviously not like a big city, but good nonetheless), and good schools. It is big enough to feel like a main city, but not too large where it's expensive and extremely busy all the time. The people are friendly, and I love the community. I feel it is a great place to live, and one that feels nice to come back to after travel.

Rochester also ranked 4th out of 228 on Niche's Best Cities to Buy a House in America list; and 25th on Niche's Best Cities to Raise a Family list, as well.

And while Minneapolis was also included on this year's list (the only other Minnesota city to make the list, coming in slightly ahead of Rochester at #20) it was The Woodlands, a suburb north of Houston, Texas that took the top spot on the 2022 Niche Best Cities to Live in America list.
