Janesville, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester man was arrested following a high-speed chase today in south-central Minnesota that resulted in the wildfire in Waseca County.

A news release from the Blue Earth Sheriff's Office says deputies responded to a suspicious vehicle complaint from a property owner along Highway 14 east of Mankato and found a stolen SUV speeding away across picked cornfields. The vehicle eventually made it back to Highway 14 before exiting near Janesville and traveling north on a Waseca County Road.

The pursuit, during which speeds hit about 100 miles per hour, ended when the SUV became stuck in a slough in a rural area. A news release says that’s where the driver, identified as 24-year-old Donovan Egilsson of Rochester, was arrested. A short time later, the stolen SUV caught on fire and the flames spread throughout the slough, which required a response from several nearby fire departments to bring the fire under control and extinguish it.

Officials say Egilsson is expected to face numerous charges, including fleeing police and possession of stolen property.
