Rochester Man Caught With Thousands of Oxy Pills Pleads Guilty

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester man's trial was canceled this morning when he entered into a plea agreement in a case involving a major drug bust last year.

Jury selection for 26-year-old Dahir Dahir’s trial was scheduled to begin this morning at the Olmsted Courthouse. Instead, he admitted to a third-degree drug possession charge. In exchange, prosecutors have agreed to drop a first-degree drug charge. He was originally charged with two counts of first-degree drug sales.

Dahir was arrested in February 2021 after he was pulled over for speeding on Elton Hills Drive Northwest. That led to a search of his vehicle and the seizure of thousands of suspected counterfeit oxycodone pills. The criminal complaint against Dahir indicated the total weight of the nearly 6000 pills was almost 685 grams. Rochester police estimated the "street value" of the drugs at nearly $180,000.

Court records indicate his plea agreement includes a recommendation from the prosecution that Dahir be placed on probation and not be required to serve any additional time in jail past the time he has already spent behind bars since his arrest. His sentencing date has not yet been set.
