Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester man has been given a 57-month prison term for a brutal attack on a Rochester woman. The sentencing order issued for 57-year-old Joseph Colon on Wednesday gives him credit for the over 500 days he is already spent in the Olmsted County jail since his arrest in June of last year.

He was taken into custody after Rochester police found him in the residence of a woman who was taken to St. Mary's Hospital for treatment of suspected facial fractures and other injuries. Colon was accused of following the woman home and forcing his way into her apartment before assaulting her. Police responded to the residence after the woman managed to get away from her attacker and lock herself inside a where she was able to signal she needed help using a medical alert device.

Colon earlier admitted to a third-degree criminal sexual conduct charge and a charge of domestic assault by strangulation through a plea agreement that resulted in the dismissal of two other felony charges and a gross misdemeanor charge.
