Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester man was sentenced Monday to just over three years in prison for attacking two men with a knife last summer.

31-year-old Aaron Swedburg earlier pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree assault stemming from June 1st incident at a residence in the 300 block of 6th Avenue Southeast. A third felony assault count was dropped through the plea agreement.

Police reports stated Swedberg was part of a group that had gathered with plans to head to downtown Rochester for the evening when some joking around escalated into a physical altercation between Swedberg and another man. Following the fight, police say the other man went to Swedberg’s apartment in an attempt to mend fences but Swedberg responded by stabbing the 27-year-old man in the chest and inflicting a serious slash wound on another man’s arm when he tried to pull the first victim away from the doorway.

Officials say the man stabbed in the chest became unresponsive while he was being transported to St. Mary's hospital but recovered after undergoing emergency surgery. Police reported the second victim ran to a nearby convenience store where someone applied a tourniquet to his wounded arm, which a witness said was "spurting blood like a sprinkler."
