Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - More thefts of political signs in the Rochester area are being reported to police.

Police Capt. Casey Moilanen says a few more were reported this week. In one case, three females who were caught in the act swore at the person who spotted them.

Moilanen says some of the thefts involve Trump signs. There have also been reports of vandalized signs.

RPD has released this statement:

The Rochester Police Department is asking our community to be respectful of each other’s political opinions.   With elections on the horizon and political signs beginning to appear, the Rochester Police Department would like to remind everyone that stealing and damaging campaign signs is against the law.  People caught stealing/damaging campaign signs can be charged with theft and criminal damage to property.  The level of charges range from misdemeanor to felony depending on the value of the sign.  As a reminder, if you decide to steal/damage campaign signs you may get caught in the act by showing up on someone’s video surveillance system.
