The Rochester Police Department said goodbye and paid tribute to one of its retired K9 officers in a touching video this week.

If you have pets, you know that despite all the joy they give us, one of the toughest things to go through is eventually having to say goodbye to your beloved friend. And when your four-legged friend is also a co-worker, it can be even tougher.

Which is why I'll admit I teared up while watching this moving video the Rochester Police Department posted to its Facebook page Wednesday. It's a tribute to retired K9  officer, Brit. Brit was a beautiful Belgian Malinois German Shepherd mix who helped keep us safe while on patrol as a beloved member of the police department here in the Med City.

The video noted that Brit retired from the force back in 2016, and was helped across the Rainbow Bridge earlier this week. (I've had to help several pets on that same journey. It's never easy. And, yeah, I'm tearing up again just writing this!)

Brit first joined the RPD in 2007, and became Rochester Police Officer Logan's partner in 2009. He would go on to become an award-winning K9 officer, too, taking first place in narcotics detection at the Duluth Trial in 2013, as well as winning several other awards. The video said he and Ofc. Logan even partnered together to take part in the Polar Plunge, the annual fundraiser for Special Olympics.

After Brit retired from the force in 2016, he continued to live a pampered life with Ofc. Logan and his family. The video summed it up by noting, "Brit was a valued and loved member of the Rochester Police Department who gave his all and trained hard. Words cannot express the sorrow felt by Brit's beloved K9 handler and his entire RPD family"

He sure will be. My thoughts are with you during this tough time, Ofc. Logan and family. I know how difficult it is to have to say goodbye to a four-legged member of the family Thanks for your service, officers.
