Hey parents, I know life is busy and we get about a kazillion e-mails right now in all areas for school, but I wanted you to be aware of one very important e-mail that you may have missed.  I'm telling you because I missed it until I got a note from a friend that said, "Hey, did you see that there are 3 different options of schools for your child with the proposed boundary changes with Rochester Public Schools?".

As you know, lots of changes are happening for Rochester Public Schools, including quite a few new schools.  With new buildings and renovations means it is time to also look at boundary lines and what works best for numbers.  Rochester Public Schools sent this note out to families on April 7th asking for their input:

Dear RPS Families,
As a follow-up to our communication earlier this week, we'd like to announce the opening of the Boundary Adjustment Option Survey. This survey is open from April 6 until April 20, 2021, at 8 PM.

Review the attendance boundary options at rochesterschools.org/boundaries. A playback of the School Board meeting briefing of these options from April 5 will be available today on youtube.com/ISD535. Links to the presentations, presentation slides, and school locator are available on the survey homepage and the RPS website.

Please note: no decisions have been made, there is no preferred option, and this survey is intended to encourage discussion and feedback. If you have additional questions or concerns after completing this survey, you will have the chance to sign up for a focus group meeting to discuss these questions.

After the survey is closed, the Advisory Committee will evaluate feedback collected through this online survey and recommend option(s) to the Superintendent. The boundary adjustments will become effective for the start of school in the 2022-2023 school year. The Superintendent recommends the School Board approve the boundary adjustments no later than September 2021, so families have approximately one year to adjust as necessary.

We appreciate your participation in this process and look forward to your feedback.

Why is it important to give your opinion?  The scenario is going to be different for every family.  Example, some families may not be impacted at all.  Other families like mine may have our kids going to a different school in every single option.  Yes, my address is one of those.  Right now is your opportunity to ask questions and be part of the process.

If you haven't filled out the survey yet, you can find it here.

Truthfully, how is school going right now for your kids?  Let me know by chatting with me on my Facebook Page - Jessica On The Radio - or on my Instagram page.  Personally, my kids have been back to school, in person, for a week.  I know my kids are fine at school and everything is in place to help them stay as safe as possible.  I think they are just tired of this entire year like the rest of us and so the excitement for school has faded a bit.
