Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester man was arraigned this week on criminal sexual conduct charges for reportedly sexually assaulting a woman while she was sleeping.

The woman says she went to the home of 26-year-old Eric Newman the night of July 3rd to party with him. According to the criminal complaint, the woman told investigators she went to bed and was awakened by Newman as he was sexually assaulting her. The woman said she went back to sleep and was awakened a second time by Newman as he was assaulting her.

The woman says after she left, she confronted Newman through a series of text messages.

The woman said Newman “apologized several times.” She said he also offered to pay her or “go to sex-ed counseling” if she did not report the incident to police.

Newman has been ordered to appear in court for an evidentiary hearing in September.
