SE Minnesota Facing Storm and Flooding Threat
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Residents of southeast Minnesota are being advised of an approaching late-summer weather system that could leave the region wet the next few days.
The National Weather Service issued an advisory Sunday morning about the expected warm, muggy and wet conditions.
The NWS says thunderstorms “are likely” Sunday afternoon and evening. The advisory says “some of the storms may become severe with a threat for damaging winds, large hail, and locally heavy rainfall.”
The NWS says there is a threat for a second round of severe weather Monday. And this could lead to flooding in parts of SE Minnesota. The advisory says the threat of flooding “may increase Monday night if storms repeat over areas potentially leading to flash flooding in some areas.”
Rain would be welcome in the Rochester area. As of Saturday, the precipitation total for August was nearly 2 inches below average.
