SE Minnesota Cheesemakers are Competing for Coveted Cheese Title
I love cheese and all different kinds of cheese. It would be so much fun to be a judge at this cheese contest but I doubt I'm qualified in any way to be a cheese judge. But next week some lucky people will judge a nationwide cheese contest and two southeast Minnesota cheese makers are participating. One is based in Rochester and the other is based just about 20 miles up the road.
This competition is the United States Championship Cheese Contest that's held in Green Bay, Wisconsin. In the news release I got about the event, they say this is a "coveted title" that two southeast Minnesota cheese makers are hoping to claim for themselves.
US Championship Cheese Contest
In this cheese contest, judges taste all kinds of "premier" cheese, butter, yogurt, and dry dairy ingredients. From there, they crown the newest champion. For this year's competition, 2,249 cheesemakers submitted entries from 35 different states. The competition kicks off on Tuesday, February 21st, and wraps up with the announcement of the champion on Thursday, February 23rd at 2 PM.
Southeast Minnesota Cheesemakers in Cheese Contest
The two cheesemaking businesses from SE MN that will be competing are Dairy Farmers of America based out of Zumbrota and Prairie Farms Dairy, Inc. based out of Faribault and Rochester. I've got my fingers crossed for both businesses, it would be awesome to have a local business take home to the cheese championship!
