Small Iowa Town Named ‘Hardest to Spell’ in the Entire State
Iowa is a fantastic state to live in, but, let's face it, some of the towns in the Hawkeye State aren't the easiest to spell. A while back, the small Northwest Iowa town of Ocheyedan took home the prestigious title of "Hardest to Pronounce Town in the Entire State". However, it isn't the hardest town to spell in the state, as that championship belt belongs to another tiny town in the Southeastern part of Iowa.
If you can spell this town correctly, you're either from that area or a bonafide spell bee champion.
USA Today, along with 24/7 Wall Street put out their list of the toughest towns in the entire United States to spell. But which community in the Hawkeye State took the crown? Well, if you're not from the Southeastern part of the state, there's a chance you've never heard of it.
The most difficult town to spell in all of Iowa, according to the article, is the small town of Keosauqua. Pronounced "KEE-o-SAW-qua", the town has a little over 900 residents and lies in the rolling hills in Southeast Iowa. Its name derives from the Meskwaki and Sauk tribes and is the native translation of the Des Moines River, and has many tributaries that flow toward the river's source.
Some of the other towns throughout the U.S. that made the list are Acequia, Idaho, Ahwatukee, Arizona, and Aiea, Hawaii. You can see the full list of all of the hardest towns to spell in the United States in the article link below.
