Routine Porta-Potty Trip Turns Into a Slithering Nightmare at Wisconsin Track Meet

One unlucky person at a Wisconsin high school event got more than they bargained for during a bathroom break.

It happened during a track meet in Boscobel, Wisconsin, last Friday, May 20, when someone using the restroom discovered an extremely large and sneaky snake slithering beneath the porta-potty.

The unexpected visitor caused quite a stir, with initial reports suggesting the reptile might be a rattlesnake. Officers Massey and Conley of the Boscobel Police Department were quickly called to the scene and found the snake tucked up under the porta-potty.

Officers acted fast to remove the snake safely, and the tense moment was captured on video, showing the officers wrangling the snake from its hiding place (video included below).

The snake was eventually identified as a large but non-venomous bull snake, not a rattlesnake as originally feared. Bull snakes are known for mimicking rattlesnake behavior, including making a rattling sound, but pose no danger to humans.

Bull snakes can also grow up to 6 to 8 feet long and are common in Wisconsin and across the Midwest, especially in grasslands, prairies, and open forests. Despite their size, they usually go unnoticed, unless they show up under a porta-potty!

Police say they released the snake outside city limits, far from the crowd and the porta-potties.
