Mankato, MN (KROC-AM News) - Police in Mankato are investigating reports of an assault on a young child on a school bus Tuesday afternoon.

The Mankato Free Press says a spokesperson for the Mankato Department of Public Safety could not confirm the allegations made by the mother of the alleged victim in a Facebook post. The woman says she went to meet her 7-year-old son at his school bus stop and entered the bus to investigate when he failed to exit it. The social media post says the child was found unconscious under a seat and a young girl on the bus reported that he had been the victim of an unprovoked attack by two boys who punched and choked him until he lost consciousness.

The mother reported that she took her son to the hospital for treatment of his injuries. She is now reporting the young boy is doing well.

The newspaper report says transportation officials in the Mankato School District confirmed a student suffered injuries due to "unsafe behavior" on a school bus.
