Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Stewartville man has been sentenced to three years in prison for a shooting that occurred last August.

23-year-old Gerardo Esquivel-Olveda was recently found guilty of a second-degree assault charge in the case. The jury that heard the case in June acquitted him of an attempted murder charge, while a drive-by shooting charge was earlier dismissed by the judge handling the case.

Esquivel-Olveda was arrested last August after he was identified as the person who shot another man in the abdomen during a confrontation in front of a home along 4th Street Southeast near St. Francis Church. Following the shooting, the 23-year-old victim in the case was initially listed in critical condition.

The criminal complaint stated the shooting was connected to an ongoing dispute between the two men involving a woman, who was later charged with aiding an offender. 21-year-old Artisha Blackman was put on trial with Esquivel-Olveda, but the jury found her not guilty.
