Brooklyn Park, MN (KROC-AM News) - Police in Brooklyn Park are searching for the driver of a stolen pickup who caused a fatal crash yesterday while he was being pursued by officers while pulling a stolen trailer and more than 200 feet of chain link fence.

A news release from the Brooklyn Park Police says the victim, a 75-year-old man, lost control and crashed into a traffic light pole along Highway 252 just north of the I-694 interchange near the border between the western Twin Cities suburb and Brooklyn Center. The fencing broke free of the fleeing pickup during the crash and the driver managed to elude the chasing officers.

The events leading up to the fatal crash began just before 10 AM when Brooklyn Park police responded to a call from a citizen who reported seeing their stolen construction trailer being pulled by a blue pickup. The news release says the officers located the pickup and trailer in the parking lot of a Hy-Vee store and the driver sped off as they approached. As he was fleeing, the driver crashed through a chain-link fence, which caused more than 200 feet of the fence to become entangled with the pickup, which then dragged it down the highway adjacent to the grocery store property.
