Support ‘Donate Life Month’ With the Timmay 5k Saturday in Rochester!
It's not too late to sign up and make a difference!
There's so many special organizations, fundraisers and ways to make a difference in people's lives now-a-days, but this is one that especially hits home for my wife, Danielle and one of her best friends, Sarah. They all went to high school together and were particularly close up until he left us. While I never got to meet Tim Rasmusson personally, I constantly hear how great of a person he was, and how big of a heart that he had. I'm sad that I never got to hang out with him because I feel we both would have connected over our love of sports. However after meeting his family on several occasions, mostly with the event I'm about to share with you below, I can sincerely tell you how such great people they are and all the good they're doing to make a difference, and do it all in their son's name.
What’s going on? The Tim Rasmusson Foundation is proudly hosting the 4th Annual Timmay5k on Saturday, April 14th. Due to the impending weather, the event has been moved indoors to the Graham Arena at the Olmsted County Fairgrounds (through Graham 3) at 9:00 a.m. It's a fun run/walk to promote organ donation and ALL proceeds go the the Gift of Life Transplant house here in Rochester. They are also accepting walk-up registrations on Saturday morning from 7:30-8:30 a.m. before the race starts. They'll also have a $1 raffle with more than 50 items donated by the Twins, Somerby Golf Club, Dyson, Target, TerraLoco, Real Deals Rochester and so many more! If you'd like, they'll also have apparel and other TRF items for sale. All the proceeds from these sales will also be donated to the Gift of Life House.
Who was Tim Rasmusson? Tim was a Rochester native and 2006 Century graduate. He was a musician, a HUGE Minnesota sports fan and a hunter and fisherman. But above all, he was incredible son, brother and friend. Tragically in 2014, Tim passed away suddenly from an ascending aortic aneurysm at the age of 26. It was at this time when his family learned that Tim was an organ donor, hence the partnership and support for Donate Life America.
What is the Tim Rasmusson Foundation? The TRF is a non-profit foundation that started as an idea for a school project for Tim’s cousin Karissa shortly after Tim’s passing. She wanted to organize a 5k in his honor and Tim’s family and friends jumped at the opportunity to honor Tim’s legacy for a long time to come. So they formed the official foundation with a mission to “Target Togetherness to Help Others”. They want to emphasize the importance of spending quality time with friends and family and to use that time to help those in need.
What can YOU do? They encourage everyone to have a conversation with your loved ones about organ donation and what your wishes are. They also encourage you to become a registered organ donor. It only take a few minutes online, or you can check the box on your license application. It is such an easy thing to do especially when you consider the impact it will have on someone’s life!
Did you know that an average of 22 people die everyday while waiting for an organ? AND one organ donor can help up to 75 PEOPLE! Feel free to visit www.donatelifemidwest.org for more information on organ donation.
