The Festive Iowa Village Among America’s Best Christmas Towns
Another holiday season is just about upon us. Once November starts, it's game over for fall, and hello yuletide season. Stores and shops blaring Christmas music, businesses offering deals galore, and holiday lights going up on storefronts and apartments everywhere.
It's really hard to not like the holiday season, isn't it? Well, whether you're a Christmas superfan, or simply want to soak in the holiday season, there's one Iowa town you need to visit.
Brimming over with the holiday spirit, this Iowa location was selected as the city in Iowa with the most Christmas spirit, according to Reader's Digest.
Now actually, to be technical, it's not a city... or a town. It's a village that was selected. Historic Valley Junction is Iowa's most festive town, erm, village.
If you aren't familiar with Valley Junction, it's nestled within West Des Moines. According to the Reader's Digest write-up,
The streets are lined with over 125,000 twinkling lights, and visitors can enjoy horse-drawn carriage rides, Santa, and caroling.
What's also impressive, is if you're a fan of small, local businesses (as we all should be), Valley Junction has about 150 of 'em for you to check out.
For anyone in Eastern Iowa, a trip to Des Moines and surrounding areas like Altoona may be something you associate more with summertime. There's Adventureland, the Iowa State Fair, and a ton of breweries. But, maybe now it's time to consider a winter visit.
Valley Junction also has horse-drawn carriage rides, Santa, and caroling during the holiday season.
Minus the snow and cold... Valley Junction kinda has me excited about this whole holiday and winter thing.
