The Minnesota State Fair is the state's biggest event and I think it probably won't happen this year.

The Great Minnesota Get-Together isn't scheduled to start until August 27th this year, but with no end in sight to the COVID-19 outbreak, I don't see any way possible that the fair can safely be held this year without risking starting another outbreak in the state.

Many cities across the state are already canceling summer events and closing popular attractions for the summer, like the popular Bunker Beach Water Park in Coon Rapids announced that they will be closed for the 2020 season.

Dr. Anthony Fauci says that the only way sports to return this year is with fan-free arenas. So if it's not safe to put 50,000 thousand people together in a sports stadium, the Minnesota State Fair gathering over 1 million Minnesotans in an area where there is NO WAY to practice social distancing is not a good idea.

As of last week, WCCO in Minneapolis reported that planning and preparations for the 2020 state fair are well underway and there are no plans to cancel at this time.

The Minnesota State Fair has only been canceled five times during its history, 1861 and 62 because of the Civil War, 1893 because of the World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago, 1945 due to WWII and the last time was in 1946 for another health crisis, the polio epidemic. I think 2020 will soon be added to that list.

I for one hope that at least Sweet Martha's Cookies figures out a way to do curbside pickup during the scheduled fair time. And let's hope that there is a vaccine or some effective treatments so we can again safely gather in big groups before the 2021 fair is scheduled to begin.
