St Paul (KROC AM News) - The number of avian flu cases in Minnesota has grown to five.

Three more cases were confirmed Monday.

They involved commercial turkey flocks in Kandiyohi, Lac Qui Parle and Stearns counties. The total number of turkeys was put at 87,000.

 

The Minnesota Board of Animal Health on Saturday reported the state’s first cases of the virus that has been confirmed in about 20 other states, including Iowa, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

The first two cases involved a Mower County backyard mixed flock of 17 chickens, ducks and geese. The other was a Meeker County commercial flock of 289,000 turkeys.
