The first Trader Joe's store opened in 1967 in Pasadena, California. Today there are close to 600 locations across the United States, including 10 in Minnesota.

Trader Joe's was just recognized as the best grocery store in the country in this year’s American Customer Satisfaction shopping study. However, 43% of Minnesotans actually think it's overrated, according to a survey by Shane Co.

I love going to Trader Joe's because I always find some quirky snack or unique frozen meal that shakes up our dinner routine.

Plus, you can snag a bouquet of flowers for under ten bucks, and their dark chocolate peanut butter cups are my favorite candy.

But, if you're trying to get all of your groceries in one stop like you would at a Hy-Vee, you're probably going to be a little disappointed. Their selection of 'regular' groceries, like your everyday produce and meats, can be limited.

Is getting everything at one store even realistic anymore? The average Minnesota family is now spending over $1,000 a month on groceries so I feel like a lot of us are bouncing around looking for deals.

Interestingly, Trader Joe's was sold in 1979 to another popular grocery chain in Minnesota – Aldi. If you're on a budget, that's definitely the store you want to shop at.

Aldi is known as the cheapest grocery store in Minnesota. According to a survey from US News & World Report, Aldi comes in first on their list of the Seven Cheapest Grocery Stores in the U.S. There are 79 Aldi locations in Minnesota.
