Ugly Weekend Forecast Got Uglier
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Travel conditions were already deteriorating Friday afternoon in western Minnesota, where a blizzard warning has been posted as Mother Nature delivers another sucker punch to winter-weary Minnesotans.
Forecasters say the powerful storm system that will visit the southern half of the state over the weekend has the potential to dump around a foot and a half feet of snow on areas in southwestern Minnesota, where there could also be 50-mile-per-hour winds.
Closer to home, Olmsted, Dodge, Wabasha and Winona Counties have been added to a winter storm warning, while a winter weather advisory has been posted for Fillmore and Houston Counties. In Rochester, a winter weather advisory will be in effect from 1 am through 1 pm tomorrow, and that will be followed by a winter storm warning from 1 pm Saturday through 1 pm Sunday.
The latest forecast from the National Weather Service predicts an icy mixture of precipitation will move into the Rochester area late tonight and become all snow tomorrow afternoon. The potential snowfall totals for the storm have been upgraded to between 6 and 12 inches around Rochester and over a foot in the Twin Cities. Gusty winds will also impede travel well into Sunday.
