Video shows a violent confrontation between police and protesters in Detroit.

The following clip was posted to Facebook by Ethan Ketner showing a Detroit police SUV driving through a crowd of Black Lives Matters protesters.

The video doesn't show what led to the police cruiser being surrounded by protesters, but the police officer is shown revving the engine while protesters climb and beat on the vehicle. The officer pulls forward and stops a few times in what may have been an attempt to get a protester off of the vehicle before ultimately accelerating and driving through the crowd.

Reactions on social media have been mixed, with some stating the officer was acting recklessly while others say the protesters put themselves in harm's way.

Witnesses say "several people had to be hospitalized" due to the collision.

Detroit Police Department just ran straight through a bunch of our protesters. Myself and 10-12 others were struck by this reckless driver who somehow has a badge. Someone was trapped on the hood and eventually tossed as the officer swerved to throw him off. These officers drove into our protest after we walked past their vehicles. They did not need to drive past us for emergency purposes because they had other officers on the other side ready. This was a clear act of aggression.

Detroit police say an investigation is underway and are currently "looking into the incident."
