Big going-on for one small town in Minnesota. Our neighbors just to the West along Highway 14, Waseca, was selected as one of the 10 finalists for "Small Business Revolution," an original series by Deluxe. Waseca was the only small town chosen from Minnesota. If selected, Waseca would receive a $500,000 small town makeover. According to the media release:

Selected communities have a chance at winning a $500,000 marketing makeover and be included in web series highlighting small town restoration

Deluxe team members will travel to each of the 10 communities to meet civic leaders, community members, interview business owners and learn more about how marketing expertise can benefit each community. From there, Deluxe will narrow the list to five towns eligible for a public vote in mid-January to determine the winner. The towns represent a cross-section of American life:

  • Benicia, California
  • Brunswick, Georgia
  • Livingston, Montana
  • Spearfish, South Dakota
  • Waseca, Minnesota
  • Bisbee, Arizona
  • Xenia, Ohio
  • The Dalles, Oregon
  • Oregon City, Oregon
  • Fredonia, New York

How cool is that? Waseca is one of the top 10 nominated in the contest. If they are chosen, they will be featured on Season 5 of the series. With that comes recognition of the small town, and of course a lot of money to help with the makeover of some of the small businesses.

"Small Business Revolution" by Deluxe Corporation is available to watch on their website, as well as HULU and Amazon Prime. The series is co-hosted by Deluxe’s own Amanda Brinkman and Ty Pennington, known for his work on "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" and "Trading Spaces." If Waseca is chosen, this will not be Pennington's first visit to Southeastern MN, as he was here in 2008 when the DeVries family from Hayward got their house redone.
