Minnesota is home to only one National Park: Voyageurs National Park. Up at the top of Minnesota, it's in an absolutely stunning area of our state and hundreds of thousands of people visit every year.

Because of where Voyageurs is located, obviously the time that most people visit is in the summer, so June, July, August, or even September.

But I don't think any of those are the perfect time to visit Voyageurs National Park.

The Perfect Time of Year to Visit Voyageurs National Park

Based on some research, I believe the best time to visit Voyageurs is in May. Here's why.

May is when you can start to bank on the weather being warm enough to be outside exploring. Arrowhead Lodge Resort says that in May, the temperature at Voyageurs is usually around 67 for a high and 40 for a low. So as long as you go on a sunny day, it'll feel perfect.

Also in May, according to the National Park Service visitor use data, there won't be too many people just yet. The number of visitors starts to creep up in May, but it's nothing like in the summer. An average of about 28,000 people visit Voyageurs in May. In June, July, and August, that number nearly doubles.

And finally, in May, you should expect to say way less bugs than if you were to go in the summer, according to The Dyrt. They haven't woken up just yet from the winter.

By visiting Voyageurs in May, you still get decent weather, little to no bugs, and less crowds than in the summer.
