Not that long ago the city installed the same kind of lights on the City Hall domes as are at the top of the Plummer Building. This allows them to light the lights in any color to honor organizations and people. All at a touch of a button (or really, probably an app).

This past Saturday, the Rochester City Hall was lit up orange for National Gun Violence Awareness Day.

In a press release from the city, Mayor Kim Norton said,

“Lowering gun violence is critical in keeping our communities safe. By raising awareness and focusing on gun safety efforts, we can work together to make gun-related violence a thing of the past.”

According to Wear Orange

  • 100 Americans are killed every day with guns
  • Firearms are the second leading cause of death for American children and teens .
  • Access to a gun increases the risk of death by suicide by 3x.
