How Is a Corn Maze Made?

For many Midwesterners, getting lost in a corn maze is a much-anticipated annual fall adventure, but have you ever wondered how these intricate mazes are actually created?

The only things I know about creating a corn maze is that it takes a lot of work and is way more involved than just plowing some paths in a cornfield.

I also know that many farms throughout the country hire outside companies to create their corn mazes each year, and MazePlay is one of the leaders in the field. Here is how a corn maze is created according to MazePlay's website;

There are many ways to plant a corn maze.  Originally the method was to plant your corn on 30" rows on a cross pattern.  Then you design the maze on graph paper go through and count rows and eliminate the corn where your paths are.  MazePlay uses gps technology, computer programs, and gps controlled planters to precisely put each individual corn seed where it needs to be, and the corn then grows up in the shape of the corn maze.

So, a corn maze is actually planted, (and not plowed) in the design pattern? I was today years old when I learned that...feel free to judge me. LOL!

The Perfect Corn Maze for Packers Fans in Wisconsin

I may be a life long Illinoisan who was raised to be a Chicago Bears fan, but even I can appreciate that Petals & Plows has outdone itself when it comes to the massive corn maze design they created in honor of Green Bay hosting the 2025 NFL Draft...

Petals & Plows corn maze will officially open for fall fun on September 7, 2024, and here is a run down of other fun things happening this fall at the farm:
