Road trip season is here, and if you'll be hitting the road with the family, there are a few places around Minnesota that you should consider stopping by along the way.

There are plenty of roadside attractions all around our state, from outdoor areas to goofy statues. The latter is what we'll be talking about, specifically some statues that claim to be the largest of it's kind in the world.

Roadside Attractions in Minnesota

One of our top roadside attractions in Minnesota has to be Paul Bunyan and Babe in Bemidji. It's so classically Minnesotan and unique to us! The pair was originally built back in 1936.

There's also a Paul Bunyan in Brainerd that will actually talk to you and can even call you by name! I remember we stopped there when I was a little kid, and my brother and I thought it was the coolest thing ever.

Neither of those has been named the 'world's largest' though (although I'd imagine we have the tallest Paul Bunyan somewhere in Minnesota).

There are three roadside attractions throughout the Land of 10,000 Lakes, however, that do claim to be the 'world's largest' and, if you're in the area, you should definitely stop by for a photo op.

And yes, you'll see that I've been to two of the three.

This giant raspberry statue is in Hopkins and was unveiled on July 8th, 2017, according to Roadside America. It was done to celebrate the town's 83rd annual Raspberry Festival.

Next, we have the World's Largest Ball of Twine (made by one man) at 40 feet in circumference.

You can find this ball of twine in Darwin. It was started in 1950 by a guy named Francis A. Johnson. He worked on this ball of twine for 39 years until he died in 1989. Then, the city moved the ball of twine to a special spot and built a gazebo around it so people could come see the work themselves.

And finally, we have Willie the Walleye, at 40 feet long and 2.5 tons.

Willie is way up north in Baudette. His name doesn't say that he's the world's largest walleye statue; there's one in Rush City, MN that claims that. However, that one is only 2 tons, so...

Work on Willie began in 1958 and was officially done and dedicated during the town's Walleye Days in June of 1959.
